Studio Cakes Announced Cake Designer of the Year

WINNING a major industry award is just the icing on the cake for talented business owner Sarah-Jane Webb. A PASSIONATE foodie with a love for art has taken the cake at the Queensland Weddings and Events of Australia Awards for Excellence.

Sarah-Jane Webb was last month named Cake Designer of the Year, just three years after launching Studio Cakes.

The Redbank Plains cake designer, who took the crown with a cake standing more than a metre tall, produces her award- winning creations from a rented kitchen in Brisbane’s CBD.

“It is such incredible acknowledgment for the work we do,” she said.

“There are some incredibly talented people working in the cake industry so I feel very fortunate.”

Ms Webb said a career in cake design was a natural progression, having been influenced as a child by her mother’s love for baking and her father’s passion for art.

“The very first cake I decided I was going to do was my own wedding cake, which was very ambitious for someone who didn’t really know a lot about cake design,” she said.

Studio Cakes is setting the benchmark in cake design and is renowned for cakes featuring water colour, sculpture and art.
